Pet Parent Advocate

Would you like to make a difference in the lives of dogs and the people who love them every day?  We are currently looking for a new team member who will be the first contact for our pet parents. 

 

This position allows, for the right person, advancement to a management position.

Hours: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Pay $9-12/hour

 

Pet Parent Advocate: Reception, Communication

  • First contact at the reception desk, telephone, email, or social meeting

  • Sending/delegating /receiving phone calls, emails, social media messages

  • Learn Gingr operating system and become highly proficient at using it

  • Be able to work remotely when required

  • Contacting clients and vets to retrieve necessary information

  • Updating and verifying vaccinations in database

  • Maintaining scheduling 

  • Having strong communication between team members

  • Setting up Zoom online meetings

  • Maintaining communications on social media 

  • Assisting trainers and groomers in behavior modification

  • Assisting when needed in the day school

  • Maintaining facility/office space 

  • Fulfilling shop orders

  • Running job-related errands

Stepping Stone Animal Training, LLC is located in central Indiana; 1 hour north of Indianapolis and 2 hours south of Chicago. The Greater Lafayette area is home to Purdue University.

 

Julie Shaw, KPA CTP, RVT, VTS (Behavior) is the owner and director of Stepping Stone. Julie has spent nearly 40 years shaping and developing a team approach that supports and strengthens the relationship we have with our pets. She believes it takes a “village” of professionals, (veterinary professionals, animal trainers, groomers, dog walkers, mental health professionals etc.) to support and keep the human-animal bond strong and healthy.

Required professional licensing or certifications: 

Animal Trainer - Certification from IAABC, CCPDT, KPA, PPG, or other relevant animal behavior certifying organizations will be considered. Appropriate and sufficient experience (and/or) education in lieu of these may be considered. 

 

Not a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Trainer but would like to be?  We will support you by paying partial tuition toward the Karen Pryor Academy. No need to travel. KPA workshops are held at the Stepping Stone Training and Education Center.

Duties may include:

  • Performing intake assessments

  • Day School Teacher

  • Puppy School Teacher

  • Home Schooling Teacher

  • Group Class Teacher

  • Private training teacher

  • Pet selection counseling

  • Community outreach

  • Community education

  • Fear Free℠ and cooperative grooming training

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

Essential Functions of this Position:

  1. Day School Teacher

    1. Supervise and train 6-8 dogs in our Day School setting

    2. Must have the ability to interpret canine body language and act as required

    3. Perform behavior modification as required to reach each student’s individual education plan goals

    4. Created individual education plans for each student including behavior modification plans

    5. Submit daily reports to pet parents, including videos from daily training sessions

    6. Attend parent-teacher conferences as needed

    7. Promote the Day School Program through social media and other venues​

  2. Group class instructor

    1. Must have excellent coaching and teaching skills

    2. Will teach classes of 4 client/dog teams

    3. Will teach puppy classes

    4. Will teach adult classes

    5. Will create and teach new class curriculums 

    6. Must be flexible with hours, including teaching evening and weekend classes
       

  3. Private Program and Homeschooling Instructor

    1. Must have excellent coaching and teaching skills

    2. Will teach 1:1 private programs to reach specified goals

    3. Will teach home-schooling programs

    4. Will submit reports to pet parents, including videos from training sessions

    5. Must be flexible with hours, including teaching evening and weekend programs
       

  4. Application of Fear Free℠ techniques – Stepping Stone Animal Training is the first to offer a Fear Free℠ grooming salon where we are adapting Fear Free℠ techniques and cooperative care to husbandry and grooming procedures

    1. Must have a strong understanding of behavior modification and learning theory

    2. Must be willing to work closely with veterinary professionals
